INTRODUCTION TO HONITON LACE by Susanne Thompson
This introduction to the art of Honiton lace is aimed at both the beginner and at those with experience in other laces but new to Honiton. After chapters on equipment and preparation and the basic stitches, there are five patterns, described in detail and progressive in difficulty, which have been designed to demonstrate most of the techniques of flat Honiton lace. The more commonly used techniques are specially presented for easy reference and each pattern is followed by a discussion of the working methods employed. Two closing chapters deal with mounting and design. The instructions will give the beginner both a thorough grounding and the confidence to move on to more complicated techniques and designs. The author is a teacher and lecturer on many forms of bobbin lace and a number of other lace crafts. She is a member of national lacemakers' organizations both in England and abroad and has completed workshop tours in Germany and the USA.
