The Caine Prize for African Writing 2010 Summary

The Caine Prize for African Writing 2010: 11th Annual Collection by The Caine Prize for African Writing

Now in its eleventh year, the Caine Prize for African Writing is Africa's leading literary prize, and is awarded to a short story by an African writer published in English, whether in Africa or elsewhere. This collection collects the five 2010 shortlisted stories, along with stories written at the Caine Prize Writers' Workshop, taking place in Spring 2010. The collection will be released in time for the announcement of the award in July 2010. The Caine Prize is rapidly gaining attention worldwide, especially after the 10 year anniversary edition and tour in 2009. The collection showcases young writersmany of whom go on to publish successful novels, for instance: Leila Aboulela, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Brian Chikwava and Helon Habila. There are 18 short stories - the winner and shortlist (5 stories) plus a dozen stories written at the Caine Prize writers' workshop. The four African winners of the Nobel Prize for Literature, Wole Soyinka, Nadine Gordimer, Naguib Mahfouz and John Coetzee are patrons of The Caine Prize.
