The Roswell File by Tim Shawcross
The most celebrated UFO incident in history, the occurrence at Roswell led to several US Government enquiries, was the subject of a 1995 General Audit Office investigation on behalf of Congress, provoked a respected Republican Congressman from New Mexico to demand yet another enquiry and led to the creation of two museums in the town. The Roswell Incident also serves as the reference point for the television series, The X Files, and features prominently in the recent blockbuster film, Independence Day. The author provides an account of what he argues are the lengths to which the US Government and military establishment have gone to erect a smokescreen around the incident. Several elaborate hoaxes have been enacted and exposed in an attempt to discredit the evidence of reliable witnesses. The hoaxes range from the production in 1947 of pieces of a crashed water balloon, through the famous and discredited film of an alien autopsy, to the very recent analysis of what purports to be a piece of debris from a crashed alien spacecraft. Tim Shawcross directed the award-winning Channel 4 documentary, Incident at Roswell. He conducted exhaustive research into Roswell, interviewing witnesses in Roswell, Fort Worth and Washington. Much of his research could not appear in his film, and he has produced a comprehensive study of Roswell.
