Understanding Ericksonian Hypnotherapy Summary

Understanding Ericksonian Hypnotherapy: Selected Writings of Sidney Rosen by Victor Kiarsis

This book is a collection of selected writings by Dr. Sidney Rosen that aim to demystify the work of the leading clinical psychiatrist, Dr. Milton Erickson, and illustrate Ericksons unconventional and life-changing hypnotic techniques and strategic therapy.

An essential reading for those who seek to learn essential elements of psychotherapy, this collection elucidates fundamental aspects of Erickson's approaches and outlines factors effective in all forms of psychotherapy. It contains core teachings of many central elements in psychotherapy and stresses the importance of techniques such as therapeutic trance and hypnosis. As a student and close friend of Dr. Erickson, Dr. Rosen shares his own personal insights about Ericksons teaching methods in a direct and straightforward manner that allows readers easy access to Ericksonian philosophy and techniques.

Many therapists, both psychoanalytic and others, will find both Rosens and Ericksons approaches compatible with their own and far removed from their preconceptions about hypnosis. Providing guidelines for providers of individual and group therapy, this book is an excellent guide to Ericksonian hypnotherapy.

Understanding Ericksonian Hypnotherapy Reviews

"What a pleasure to see this wonderful collection of Sidney Rosens papers. He has been an illustrious and unique contributor to the fields of hypnosis and psychotherapy over the years, and its a great thing to see some of his many writings all gathered together. Bravo!" Stephen Gilligan, PhD., psychologist and author of Generative Trance

"Dr. Sidney Rosen is a healer. Like all healers, he is a teacher. He teaches by way of example. He teaches in the manner of his interactions. He teaches didactically. In this collection of Sids writings, those who may not have had the opportunity to study with and learn from him can benefit from his skill and wisdom. Those who have can enjoy recalling their time with Sid, time spent savoring his clinical acumen, his creativity, and his loving warmth." Robert Staffin, PsyD, ABPH, Author of More Common Therapy: The Experiential Psychotherapy of Jeffrey K. Zeig

"This most excellent work captures the essence of Sidney Rosens work in the field of clinical hypnosis over the past several decades and, with Rosens My Voice Will Go With You, will become a standard work for clinicians studying the work of Milton Erickson and the field of clinical hypnosis in its larger scope. I recommend this work enthusiastically and without reservation."
Father James W. Warnke, MSW, LCSW, ACSW, former president, The New York Milton H. Erickson Society; retired faculty, National Pediatric Training Program in Clinical Hypnosis
