The first of a series designed to cover all tropical rain forests in the world. This is a visual portfolio of detailed maps of Asia, accompanied by a text which seeks to analyze the extent and causes of deforestation and to point a way towards sustainable forest development. Part 1 describes the issues, the impact of human encroachement, government policies, changes in agricultural practices, the tropical forestry action plan and the protected areas system. Part 2 contains 18 country studies. Each chapter has a detailed map of rain forests and the accompanying text describes in detail the current situation in that country.
