A First Lab in Circuits and Electronics Summary

A First Lab in Circuits and Electronics by Yannis P. Tsividis

Written by an award-winning educator and researcher, the sixteen experiments in this book have been extensively class-tested and fine-tuned. This lab manual, like no other, provides an exciting, active exploration of concepts and measurements and encourages students to tinker, experiment, and become creative on their own. This benefits their further study and subsequent professional work. The manual includes self-contained background for all electronics experiments, so that the lab can be run concurrently with any circuits or electronics course, at any level. It uses circuits in real applications which students can relate to, in order to motivate them and convince them that what they learn is for real. As a result, the material is not only made interesting, but helps motivate further study in circuits, electronics, communications and semiconductor devices. EXTENSIVE INSTRUCTOR RESOURCES: * Putting the Lab Together is an extensive resource for instructors who are considering starting a lab based on this book. Includes an overview of a typical lab station, suggestions for choosing measurement equipment, equipment list with relevant information, and detailed information on parts required. This resource is openly available. * Instructor's Manual includes hints for choosing lab TAs, hints on how to run the lab experiments, guidelines for shortening or combining experiments, answers to experiment questions, and suggestions for projects and exams. This manual is available to instructors who adopt the book.

About Yannis P. Tsividis

Yannis P. Tsividis is Edwin Howard Armstrong Professor of Electrical Engineering at Columbia University. Starting with the first fully integrated MOS operational amplifier, which he demonstrated in 1976, he has done extensive work in analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits at the device, circuit, system, signal processing, and computer simulation level. He is the recipient of the 1984 IEEE W. R. G. Baker Prize Award for the best IEEE publication, the 1986 European Solid-State Circuits Conference Best Paper Award, and the 1998 and 2008 IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Guillemin-Cauer Best Paper Award. He is co-recipient of the 1987 IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Darlington Best Paper Award and the 2003 IEEE International Solid-State Circuits Conference L. Winner Outstanding Paper Award. He is a fellow of the IEEE. At Columbia, he has received the 1991 Great Teacher Award from the Alumni Association, the 1998 Distinguished Faculty Teaching Award from the Engineering School Alumni Association, and the 2003 Presidential Award for Outstanding Teaching. He received the IEEE Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2005, and the IEEE Circuits and Systems Education Award in 2010. In 2012, he was elected Professor Honoris Causa at the University of Patras, Greece, and in 2013 he received the Outstanding Achievement Award of the University of Minnesota. He received the IEEE Gustav Robert Kirchhoff Award in 2007. Tsividis is coauthor of Operation and Modeling of the MOS Transistor, published by OUP.
