1885. First Edition. 190 pages. Full vellum binding. Black and white frontis engraving by the author's friend J. Cother Webb. Inscription and stamp to front endpaper. Tissue guard to frontis is present. Pages moderately tanned and thumbed at the edges, with moderate foxing. Several pages intensely tanned compared to rest. Hinges and guttering are cracked; rear hinge torn at bottom. Binding is loose. Boards have been heavily rub worn with heavy shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and heavily frayed and spine ends are crushed, with some small splits and chips. Intense tanning and handling marks to spine and edges. Book has a notable forward lean and is a little bowed. Small hole to rear joint. Gilt decoration dulled and worn. Intensely rubbed and marked overall. Small liquid stain to rear.
