Fast Track to Reading - Teacher Book with CD - ROM - Accelerated Learning for EFL and ESOL Students Roger Scott

Fast Track to Reading: Accelerated Learning for EFL and ESOL Learners Fast Track to Reading is an accelerated reading programme designed for adult learners of English who are not readily able to read the Roman alphabet. It can be used for students who cannot read at all and for students who cannot cope with reading at speed. It is designed for adult learners of English who already have a concept of reading: those who can read and write in a linear phonetic language such as Arabic or Farsi, and those who are conversant with pictographic languages such as Mandarin or Cantonese. However, it can also be used with students who have yet to gain a concept of reading. Fast Track to Reading can be used before starting a course where reading is an integral element, or as a reading element in parallel with a simple starter-level course. In mixed ability classes where only some students are unfamiliar with the English alphabet, the programme can be used for self-study outside class. Key Features * Designed to facilitate decoding of Roman script * For students who are learning to read in English and for students who cannot cope with reading at speed * Accelerates learning in a programmed manner * Can be used in parallel with a simple starter level English course * Contains global reading to enhance relevance and motivation * Audio CD for further self-study or homework * Comprehensive teaching notes Contents include: * short vowels and consonants, * two letter representing one sound, * long vowels, * consonant clusters, * vowel + consonant + vowel, * the names of the letters, * long vowels and their relation to consonants, * alternative vowel sounds for the same spelling, * silent letters Fast Track to Reading - Arabic Notes pdf file See accompanying Course Book.

Roger Scott co-authored the Teacher's Book to accompany Peter Viney's Fast Track to Reading and is working on Accounting in the ESAP series. He has a B.A. (Hons) and an M.A. in philosophy from Reading University and Manchester University respectively. He has been Head of R&D at Bournemouth Eurocentre, Pedagogic Adviser to Eurocentres UK, Chair of Cambridge FCE and CPE paper 4, a chief examiner for Edexcel and a member of the British Council EIBAS inspectors' panel. He has written much test material and a number of EFL books focussing on listening, examination skills and self-instruction. He is now a freelance consultant and writer in EFL and ESOL. Anna Phillips has worked in ELT for more than 30 years. She has worked as a teacher of both multilingual and monolingual classes, with teenagers and adults, in both the UK and abroad. Anna began writing materials for special courses as a senior teacher working for the British Council in Oman. Later, as Director of Studies and Owner-Manager of the International House school in Oman, she spent much of her time adapting and developing materials, owing to the lack of suitable course books for the needs of the students. During this period Anna was also extensively involved in teacher training, both in-service and also for CELTA and DELTA. She was also an examiner for CELTA and travelled extensively throughout the Gulf region in this role. In 1989 Anna completed her MA (TEFL) from Reading University. Since returning to the UK, Anna has worked with Terry Phillips on a large number of textbooks for a variety of publishers. Anna's particular interest is making course books more 'user friendly' for teachers who are not native speakers of English.
